New Jersey’s winningest boys soccer coach was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame.
Miller Bugliari has coached soccer at the Pingry School in Bernards Township since 1960. He currently has 850 wins, the most in New Jersey and second most in the country.
The 83-year-old has five state titles, 25 county titles and even a field and building named after him. But he says that despite all the accolades, he sometimes feels like he’s isn’t always taken seriously.
“This is like my grandpa. But my grandpa is home doing the gardening. What is this guy doing?” says Bugliari.
Bugliari graduated from Pingry in 1952 and started coaching the soccer team eight years later. He has been there ever since. He says that he has had chances for other jobs, but has chosen to stay at Pingry.
“The combination of coaching and teaching, and I taught for years, was always fun for me,” he says.
In addition to coaching and teaching, Bugliari has also worked for the New York Giants, moving chains on the field for the past 45 years.
His players and former players say that he is always there for them, despite his busy schedule.
"When I talk to him he always ends a conversation with, 'So we have a game plan.' And that always feels good because he's helping me out,” says Pingry graduate Roberto De Almeida.
Bugliari says that he has no plans on retiring any time soon.
