Hundreds of nurses at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie are calling for better working conditions.
They say they're exhausted from mandatory overtime and their staffing isn't safe.
The nurses say emergency room wait times reached 17 to 19 hours at times last week., and that labor and delivery and neonatal ICU patients had to be sent elsewhere because there wasn’t enough staff.
The workers say they want a fair contract that will bring more nurses to the hospital.
A spokesperson for the owner of Vassar Brothers Medical Center told News 12, “As we continue to negotiate a new contract in good faith, we are confident we will achieve a positive, long-term solution for all."
