A McDonald's restaurant in Nyack will have to shell out $1,500 in fines to the Rockland County Department of Health after violations in connection with the alleged dumping of "soda sludge."

County Board of Health President Dr. Jeffry Oppenheim says the violation came after an employee allegedly dumped the overflow from the catch basin underneath the soda machine into a nearby storm drain.

Oppenheim says pouring anything but water into the drain is a violation of law, but more importantly, it's really bad for the environment. He says the drains eventually spill into local streams and then into the Hudson River.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation was also notified about the dumping and issued a ticket to the McDonald's for a water quality violation.

The health department says that the McDonald's has since corrected the violations.
