A Nassau Community College student was found fatally shot Wednesday afternoon near the Nassau/Queens border.
The NYPD says it got a call for an unconscious man in the street around 1 p.m. When police arrived, they found 19-year-old Jay Patel shot in the abdomen.
Police say Patel was shot in another location and then left for dead on 268th Street off Hillside Avenue in Floral Park – just one block from his home. A witness told police she saw two people drag Patel out of a red Camry and leave his body on the sidewalk.
Patel was taken to North Shore University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Patel had been enrolled as a business student at NCC this semester. Police say the motive for the murder is not known at this time. They are checking surveillance footage for any sign of the red Camry.
No arrests have been made.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to call the NYPD anonymously at 1-800-577-TIPS.
