Firefighters from three states, friends, family and Marines came to New Jersey Friday for an emotional farewell to a New York City firefighter from Sleepy Hollow who died in the line of duty.

Rookie FDNY firefighter Michael Reilly, 25, and four colleagues were battling a massive fire inside a Bronx store Sunday when the floor collapsed. Reilly and his lieutenant, Howard Carpluk, died as a result. Engine 75 was draped with Reilly?s name and bag pipes and drums sounded as his body made its way to St. Paul?s Church, in Ramsey, where he grew up.

Reilly also served with the Marines in Iraq and was still a member of the Marine Reserves. During the funeral service, Reilly?s dedication to the fire department and the Marines was remembered. All in attendance spoke of a young man who was kind, charming and would always lend a helping hand and who will be sorely missed.
