NYSEG crews scramble to restore power after Tuesday’s storm
NYSEG crews having been working around the clock to restore power to hundreds of customers affected by the summer storm that tore through the region Tuesday evening.
The storm appears to have taken a straight path from Yorktown to Somers, knocking down power lines and dozens of trees in its path.
Cynthia Burzei, of Somers, says the rain, lightning and wind only lasted a few minutes, but its force uprooted the tree across the street from her and deposited it on her front lawn.
Somers homeowner Joseph Lohwasser says a tree also landed in his yard.
"If this came through the house, we would be gone," he said.
NYSEG crews vow to remain on the job until all the lights are back on.
