Obama tells U.N. leaders world has dodged depression
President Barack Obama is calling on worldleaders to support new efforts to bring about peace in the Mideast,while declaring the global economy has been "pulled back from thebrink of a depression."

Obama, visiting the United Nations where world leaders aregathered, says "America has joined with nations around the worldto spur growth and renewed demand that could restart jobcreation."
On the Israeli-Palestinian issue, he tells colleagues there isan opportunity to bring to an end generations of violence andinstability, and urged world leaders to support the current,renewed set of negotiations.
And he also says the United States has refocused and intensifiedits efforts to combat violence from the al-Qaida terrorist network.
