MOUNT KISCO - A Mount Kisco police officer has resigned after pleading guilty to punching his pregnant ex-girlfriend in the face.

James Whalen, a 20-year veteran of the Mount Kisco police force, pleaded guilty in April to attempted assault and harassment for the December attack.

Police say Whalen saw his ex-girlfriend with another man and then punched the man in the face multiple times. They say he also hit his ex-girlfriend in front of her 2-year-old daughter.

Whalen's resignation will take effect at the end of May. Reports say he will still receive his retirement benefits.
