Officer who abused boy gets 5 years
An ex-NYPD officer from Nanuet who sexually abused a young boy was sentenced to five years in prison Monday.
Jamie Katz resigned from the force in January after a decade of service and later pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a young boy, starting from when the boy was 12 years old.
"Based on the facts presented to us and the evidence and the wishes of the victim and the family, we believe the sentence was appropriate under all the circumstances," says Rockland District Attorney Tom Zugibe. "This is an individual who will spend at least five years in state prison."
The former officer will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years after he gets out of prison. Katz also had to sign an order of protection keeping him away from the victim.
