Officials deem Spring Valley Hebrew school fire arson
Authorities confirmed Monday that a suspicious fire at a Spring Valley Hebrew school was arson.
Detectives believe someone threw a rock through a window Friday night at the United Talmudical Academy on South Madison Avenue and entered the school. Someone set curtains and other decorations ablaze.
Investigators say while the incident occurred after Rosh Hashana celebrations, they don't believe it was a hate crime. However, school officials say they have endured vandalism acts in the past.
Administrators estimate the damage will cost up to $15,000 to repair. Work at the school, which is under construction, is scheduled to be finished in December.
