Officials are petitioning the state to relocate four sex offenders who are living in a motel across the street from a day care in Newburgh.
The men are living at the Orange Lake Motel on Route 52 in the Town of Newburgh.
Police say the registered sex offenders were placed there by the state weeks ago, sparking concern from lawmakers and community members who say there are other motels nearby – away from children - where they can be placed.
Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobsen and Sen. James Skoufis are petitioning the state to relocate the men and are working to change the current law, which prohibits registered sex offenders from living near schools but not day cares.
