Officials probe carpet warehouse fire in Monsey
Investigators are trying to determine ifa fire that destroyed a carpet warehouse in Monsey was intentionally set.The blaze broke out at 9:30 Wednesday night at the Ace Flooring company on Robert Pitt Drive. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof and side of the building. Firefighters were still on the scene Thursday. Police say a witness reported a man running near the building, hopping into a minivan and taking off from the scene. Investigators say they're not sure how credible the information is or if that person was involved in the fire.
Neighbors say Ace Flooring was a family owned business for decades. As part of the cleanup, crews will use excavators to begin pulling debris out of the building. Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call Ramapo police at 357-2400.
