Authorities say a police officer was injured and a suspect was shot in Yonkers during an encounter Monday.
Police say five officers responded to a 911 call about a man “waving a gun” inside an apartment building at 52 Main St. around 12:30 p.m.
At least one officer shot a 24-year-old suspect in the leg. Police believe this suspect was also the man who made the 911 call.
It's unclear how many officers fired their guns.
Police haven't found the weapon the man who was shot allegedly had.
Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller says one of the officers was seriously injured when he jumped over the third-floor railing during the altercation. It was unclear why he had to jump.
"We haven't had an opportunity to interview them yet. As soon as we do, we'll have a much clearer picture of what transpired,” he says.
The injured officer has four broken vertebrae in his neck and a concussion. News 12 was told he's in the ICU at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Police say the man who was shot is so far not facing any charges and has not been arrested.
Mueller says every officer's body camera should've been activated.
The Westchester District Attorney's office is conducting a joint investigation to make sure an independent eye is brought to the case.
