Officials say a vote on bringing toll roads back to Connecticut could happen within days.
House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz says he's aiming for a vote early next week. He says if it passes, tolls could return by the year 2022 because the state is running out of money for critical road and rail repairs.
"I'm no longer afraid of this whole idea at all," Aresimowicz says. "I'm willing to do the right thing for the state of Connecticut and let the pieces fall where they may."
He says he expects Republicans to try and block any move toward tolls.
Gov. Dannel Malloy pitched that idea to prevent Metro-North and bus fares from going up. Instead, lawmakers would take money from the state's Rainy Day Fund.
