The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says callers are pretending to be from NYSEG, Central Hudson and Orange & Rockland Utilities.
The scammers are contacting residents to say that their electric bills are overdue.
The callers then ask for credit card numbers and request money via Western Union or MoneyGram.
The sheriff's office recommends hanging up immediately if you receive one of these calls. Contact your utility company directly if you think you owe any money.
