Open fires banned in Westchester County parks as precaution against brush fires
Open fires are now banned in all Westchester County parks as a precaution against brush fires.
Park officials are worried about fires since it has not rained since mid-July, and claim even a small spark could ignite a blaze. Officials say there have already been some small fires around the county. The reservoir levels are also slightly below normal for the county.
In Rockland County parks, signs are about to be posted warning of the fire danger. While in Orange County, there are no warnings yet, but open fires are being discouraged.
