Orange County Legislator Dan Castricone (R-Tuxedo) says he is working on a draft for legislation which would criminalize cyber-bullying in the county.
His efforts mirror the work of state Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland), who is working on a statewide bill to criminalize cyber-bullying.
Under the current draft of Castricone's bill, cyber-bullying would be classified as a misdemeanor and those found guilty of the crime could face jail time and a fine.
Under Carlucci's draft, the crime would be a felony if the cyber-bullying results in a death.
The issue of cyber-bullying was brought to light after the suicide of 14-year-old Kameron Jacobsen, who was allegedly a victim of cyber-bullying.
