Orange, Rockland counties prepare for Hurricane Irene
Officials in Orange and Rockland counties are preparing for Hurricane Irene, which is expected to hit the region this weekend.

In Orange County, officials spent the day monitoring forecasts and preparing residents for possible evacuations in low-lying areas.
In Deerpark, Supervisor Karl Brabenec declared a state of emergency within his community.
Officials say they will be opening shelters for storm victims if needed.
In Rockland County, Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef declared a state of emergency in the county ahead of the storm.
Vanderhoef advised residents to stock up on supplies like water and food, along with a first-aid kit, flashlights, batteries and a portable radio.
Orange County officials say shelters will be open across the county starting tomorrow night.
In Nyack, officials say parking will be free in municipal lots starting tomorrow afternoon to allow residents to move their vehicles to higher ground.
