Orangetown town board to vote on $22 million bond to upgrade sewer system
The Orangetown town board plans to take up a massive sewer upgrade bond. If approved, one of the nation's oldest sewer systems will be modernized. As part of the $22 million upgrade, five pump stations will be overhauled and sewer lines beneath the street will be repaired. Even though the capital improvement plan will put the town in about $1.1 million debt, sewage taxes should remain flat or only increase slightly over the next three years. If the town board approves the plan, work could begin this fall. A public meeting on the plan was held Monday at the Orangetown Hall.
