After having his diner destroyed by fire and $10,000 in cash stolen from his truck, the owner of Maddy?s Diner in Middletown vows to re-open.
Fire investigators believe the fire on Monday was sparked by a neon sign. Diner owner Mark Drury was able to get his patrons and employees out in time and even managed to retrieve $10,000 from the cash register. The money, which was in his catering van, was stolen as firefighters were dousing the fire. Witnesses say they saw three teens lurking near the van and their behavior seemed suspicious. Police are still investigating.
Drury had fire insurance and will rebuild the diner. Neighbors are planning a chicken barbecue fundraiser to help reimburse Drury for the stolen money.
