While the Hudson Valley may not be getting the brunt of Jose, parts of New York were already feeling the effects from the storm Tuesday.
On Long Island, some beaches were already flooded following Tuesday morning's high tide. The boardwalk at Jones Beach was underwater.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said equipment was deployed across the state to deal with any potential problems from Jose.
"We are prepared for whatever it is or for whatever it isn't. Again, Jose is the initial situation that we are monitoring but right behind it is storm Maria," he said.
National Guard and urban search-and-rescue teams were also ready to respond if necessary.
The National Weather Service downgraded Jose to a tropical storm with top winds speeds of about 70 mph late Tuesday night.
