Pharmaceutical plant announces 190 job cuts
A pharmaceutical plant in Rockland announced the layoff of 130 employees Wednesday.
Par Pharmaceuticals, which develops, manufactures and markets generic drugs, says it's cutting a total of 190 jobs.
The company is based in Woodcliff, New Jersey, but has a distribution site in Suffern and a manufacturing plant in Chestnut Ridge. Seventy percent of the layoffs will be coming from these Rockland offices.
A spokesperson from Par says the economy didn't play a factor in the decision, but that cuts were needed for the plant to be more profitable.
Of the 190 layoffs, 60 will take place before the end of this year with the rest in 2009.
According to Par Pharmaceuticals, all affected employees have been notified. They will receive a severance package and paid leave for 60 days.
