Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate and current Westchester D.A. Jeanine Pirro demanded Sunday for State Assembly Majority Leader Sheldon Silver to take the civil confinement bill out of committee and put it to a vote.

Pirro, joined by the family of Connie Russo Carriero, stood in front of Silver?s Manhattan office calling for him to take action. Police say Carriero was killed by convicted sex offender Philip Grant in June inside a parking lot at the Galleria Mall in White Plains. A civil confinement law would keep violent sex predators, like Grant, confined in secure mental institutions even after they are released from prison.

Pirro, who is running against Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), says Clinton should use her influence with Silver to get the bill passed. However, Clinton?s office says she is already on the record in support of civil confinement.
