A plan to abolish the Board of Trustees at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern has some worried about losing local input on patient care.

Good Samaritan spokesperson Deborah Marshall says an outside consultant was brought in last year to look for ways to reduce costs. The consultant's proposal would create one board to overlook Good Samaritan Hospital and four other medical centers run by the hospitals' parent company.

Village of Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright says that's a concern.

"I think there is a proclivity that they'll be more in favor to support corporate headquarters," Wright says. "It becomes a bottom line type of thing."
