It happened on Route 211 on the Wallkill-Montgomery town line around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.
A car and a pickup truck were both heavily damaged on opposite sides of the roadway.
New York state police detectives were on the scene to take photos and gather evidence.
Firefighters blocked off the road until well past midnight.
