Police investigate sexual abuse at Newburgh day care
The teenage son of a woman who runs a day care center out of her Newburgh home is accused of sexually abusing one of the boys in her care. Christopher Johnson, 17, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual act, for allegedly engaging in oral or anal sexual contact with a child less than 11 years old. He is also charged with first-degree sexual abuse, for allegedly having sexual contact with the victim.
Johnson?s mother says the serious charges her son faces can be explained. She claims a boy she was caring for wet his pants and Christopher helped change his clothes.It is not the first complaint at the home day care. A similar accusation arose in 2005. Christopher Johnson was accused of touching a boy, however, police found the claim unsubstantiated and no charges were filed.Cathy Johnson?s home day care license expired in 2005. The state is now investigating to see if she's offering illegal childcare. Meanwhile, police are asking any parents who suspect abuse at the day care center to come forward.
Johnson is being held at the Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail.
