PUTNAM VALLEY - A man died in a multi-vehicle car crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam County Monday night.

Police say the accident happened just before 6:30 p.m. near Bryant Pond Road in Putnam Valley.

Authorities say Joseph Nagy, 28, hit two cars on the northbound side of the Taconic before passing over into the southbound lanes.

Investigators say Nagy was not wearing a seat belt when he crashed. Police say they found an open bottle of vodka, marijuana and pills inside his car.

Nagy was air-lifted by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Traffic in both directions on the parkway was at a standstill for hours.
