Police refute claim of delayed response to Pomona fire
A Pomona homeowner claims it took firefighters too long to respond to a fire that destroyed his home. Police released the 911 tape Thursday to refute those claims.
Jean-Michelet Moise called 911 Wednesday when he noticed what he thought was a brush fire in his back yard. He said he was transferred, waited almost 10 minutes and then the line went dead. Police say the line did go dead, but firefighters still responded immediately. The entire 911 call lasted less than 50 seconds. According to the fire coordinator, firefighters were on their way and at the house in about 8 minutes.
Ramapo Police Sergeant Lynch says perception and reality can be different things for someone in such a traumatic situation. Investigators think the fire started near the back deck of the house.
