Officials have released surveillance images of the man they say robbed the Oritani Bank in Park Ridge Wednesday afternoon.
Police say that the suspect told the bank manager that he had a bomb and ordered all of the employees into the bank vault. He then ordered the employees to empty the safe and put the money into a large black bag.
He took the bag and drove away in a white minivan, according to officials.
Police say that prior to the robbery, the suspect called 911 to report a shooting at a home on Fifth Street in an attempt to keep police occupied. Neighbors told News 12 New Jersey that there was a large police presence Wednesday afternoon and that the area was locked down.
The shooting was determined to be a hoax.
Anyone who may have information about the robbery should contact the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office at 201-226-5782 or Park Ridge police at 201-391-5400.
