YONKERS - An off-duty Yonkers police detective who was killed in a head-on collision with a fire truck last February was driving drunk, according to an investigation by the police department.

Frank Fernandez, 45, was driving westbound on Palmer Road when his SUV collided head-on with a fire truck headed eastbound in the area of Sunnybrook Road.

The report shows that Fernandez's blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit.

Speed of his car was also cited as a possible contributing factor.

Fernandez was a 15-year department veteran.

He left behind a wife and two children.
