As Election Day nears, candidates in Rockland County have taken off the gloves for some political sparring.

Candidates from all the major races in Rockland met last night in a special forum sponsored by the Jewish Community Campus.

Among the hotly contested races is for Ramapo supervisor, where five-term incumbent Chris St. Lawrence is hoping to beat back challenges from businessman Marino Fontana and "Preserve Ramapo" head Robert Rhodes.

The three men debated the merits of the the town's controversial $38 million ballpark, just outside Pomona.

The Candidate's Forum, sponsored by the JCC Rockland, is held annually to bring voters and political candidates face to face, in an atmosphere that allows voters to ask questions, and hear what those who wish to represent them have to say about the toughest issues facing Rockland.
