Weekend family fun on Long Island: 'The Wizard of Oz,' Dr. Seuss and more
Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From "The Wizard of Oz" and Dr. Seuss to a musical fundraiser and more, there's much to do on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for fun, family-friendly activities this weekend:
2. Bone-a-Fide Fun at the Long Island Science Center (11 W. Main St., Riverhead). Learn about human bones, compare them to those of other animals and create a skeleton on Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Price: $5 ages 2 and older.
3. "The Wizard of Oz" at Bellmore Movies (222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore). Catch Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and all your beloved "Oz" characters on stage, then meet and greet the characters after the show on Saturday at 11 a.m. Price: $10.
4. Aesop Bops! With David Gonzalez and The Yak Yak Band at Landmark on Main Street (232 Main St., Port Washington). Audience participation is expected in this funny musical performance featuring Aesop's classics such as "The Lion and the Mouse," "The Fisherman and His Wife" and "The Turtle's Shell" on Sunday at 2 p.m. Price: $20.
5. Music Together Anniversary Concert Fundraiser at Central Synagogue of Nassau County (430 DeMott Ave., Rockville Centre). Sing, dance and play at a children's concert to help raise money for superstorm Sandy victims on Sunday at 2 p.m. Price: $13 adult, $8 children in advance; $15 adult, $10 children at door.
