One Hudson Valley man is keeping his father's memory alive this holiday season, and every holiday season, in a unique way.
Putting together his intricate Christmas village takes John DeVvito over a month. The Pomona man meticulously places each house and village resident across the display.
The display sits on 12 tables, and DeVito says he is not done adding to it. This year, he added 10 pieces, including a winter ballroom.
"I just love this time of year, to put it up and invite people to the house to see it," DeVito says.
The tradition started with his father, who began collecting pieces in the early 1990s. DeVito says his dad added to the collection every year, until he died in 2012.
"It makes all of us happy that he uses pieces that my dad collected years ago and it makes me feel like he's with us," says DeVito's sister Lori.
It's something DeVito says he is proud to keep doing.
"I'm sure that he's looking down at us and is really happy that I do keep it up, try to keep traditions alive," says DeVito.
