Precautions taken to protect softball team
Organizers of a girls' softball league in Throgs Neck say they have taken precautions to protect the team from vandalism during this summer season.
The team, which News 12 The Bronx has covered in the past, has been the target of vandals for several months, with portable restrooms destroyed at the league's field, crushed beer cans littering the grass and graffiti covering the equipment shed. Doris Iglesias, who coaches the team and is the mother of three players, says she gave the 45th Precinct a copy of the team's schedule to organize security presence.
Parents say they are still waiting for the New York City Parks Department to install the 7-foot iron fence and surveillance cameras that were promised last season to secure the softball field.
