New Jersey is a state known for many things, but would it be a good fit for royalty?
Britain’s Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, said that they plan “to step back” as senior members of the royal family. The couple says that they intend to “balance” their time between the U.K. and North America.
Where in North America is anyone’s guess at the moment – so News 12’s Brian Donohue asked, ‘Why not New Jersey?’
Donohue brought his map of the Garden State to the food court at the Menlo Park Mall and posed that question to various New Jerseyans.
One patron suggested Westfield or Middlesex County.
“They have access to New York and Westfield is a quiet area,” he said, while also suggesting the Pinelands and Burlington County.
Another patron suggested Newark for Prince Harry and Meghan.
“It’s something new for them…it would be dope,” he said.
A woman who lives in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge said that she thought that the couple should stay where they are, but then perked up when Donohue suggested that the couple visit a fantastic empanada truck that frequents the town.
“Maybe they can start their own empanada truck,” she said. “They can make royal food.”
Prince Harry and Meghan have said that they wish to “work to become financially independent,” so starting an empanada truck may not be the worst idea.
Another patron said that she doubts that they would come to New Jersey and suggested California or Canada instead.
Harry is a grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and sixth in line to the throne. Before becoming the Duchess of Sussex, his wife was an American actress known as Meghan Markle.
Since the couple is the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in England, News 12’s Eric Landskroner suggested they check out Sussex, New Jersey.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
