Fathers who didn't pay their state-owed child support are getting a second chance at success, both financially and emotionally, thanks to a county-run program.

A total of 11 fathers graduated from the REAL program Thursday at Rye Playland.

The program provides courses to learn about parenting skills and how to seek employment.

As the men complete each phase, they receive incentives to help eliminate most of their state-owed child support, while the county is still paying for the mothers who are on welfare.

REAL isn't just about paying back child support. It's also a chance for fathers to show emotional support and build relationships with their loved ones.

“We target those fathers that are willing to take and pay their dues, take courses, leadership training, job skills and commit to a contract,” says Susan Wayne, CEO of Family Services of Westchester.
