Property tax hikes, layoffs in new OC budget plan
(10/04/10) GOSHEN - Layoffs and property tax hikes could soon be coming to Orange County.
County Executive Ed Diana outlined his proposed $715 million budget for 2011 at the Legislative Chambers in Goshen.
He called it the most difficult budget he has ever had to put together. Diana cited an overall decline in revenue, coupled with skyrocketing social services costs, for increasing the county property tax by 4.5 percent.
The plan also removes funding from 92 county-wide positions and cuts 39 jobs at Valley View Nursing Home.
The Legislature has until Dec. 2 to approve it.
