Residents in New City are concerned a new county access road will lead to more traffic in their neighborhoods.
Rockland County wants to add a new driveway that would create one more access road from New Hempstead Road into the county government center. Highway Superintendent Skip Vezzetti says the driveway will take some traffic off New Hempstead Road, which will be even more important when a big project starts on that road in 2008.
Neighbors say drivers already use the roads as shortcuts, making local streets more busy. Legislator Ed Day (R - New City) says he will fight for more public input before the county starts work on the new road.
