Protesters call for end of puppy mills as Pups4Loves defends ‘perfect record’
Some protesters rallied outside Pups4Love in Albertson Saturday, saying that it gets their dogs from puppy mills.
Keri Michel, from advocacy group Puppy Mill Free Long Island, says the problem is where these stores get their puppies from.
"They're outside in all inclement weather, they never leave their cages, they get little to no vet care, no socialization and these puppies are ripped away from their parents," she says.
News 12 went inside Pups4Love to speak with owner Barry Forrest.
"I conform to all the rules and regulations required of me by New York state, by Nassau County and by North Hempstead," he says.

Forrest says his puppies are from breeders licensed by the USDA and his shop is inspected by the state Department of Agriculture and the SPCA.
"In all these inspections, I have a perfect record. I also have a wonderful reputation for the qualities of the puppies I sell," says Forrest.
The protesters called on Nassau Executive Laura Curran to put forth legislation that would ban the sale of puppies from breeders.
News 12 reached out to County Executive Laura Curran, but she wasn't available for comment.
It’s the same store that a man recording a video of puppies being delivered was beaten earlier this month. A Missouri man was charged with assault.
