Racehorse injured in Thruway accident is put down
The owners of a racehorse injured in an accident on the NYS Thruway had to make the heartbreaking decision Thursday to put the horse down.
Joe Rubeo was towing his racehorse KF Trump on the Thruway in Tuxedo Wednesday when the trailer started to sway. Rubeo says the horse trailer broke free from the hitch and it flipped over a few times with the horse trapped inside.
Rubeo and his fiancée, Brandi O'Donnell, own four other horses that often run at Yonkers Raceway. They say it isn?t just a business endeavor, but say the horses are part of their family. They had hoped K, as they called her, would recover. However, the injuries to her legs were too extensive, so they made the decision to euthanize her so she wouldn?t be in any more pain. To pay tribute to the horse they loved so much, Rubeo and O?Donnell decided to have K cremated. They will then spread her ashes at the practice track she loved to run on.Trailercarrying racehorse rolls over on Thruway
