The Ramapo High School community is in mourning today after learning that a beloved teacher died in a motorcycle crash.
On Monday, Peter Fitzpatrick took the day off from work and was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a minivan on Veterans Memorial Drive in Pearl River.
Fitzpatrick taught at Ramapo High School for 18 years and also served as dean of students. His colleagues describe him as a consummate professional and a great teacher who touched the lives of all his students.
Flowers and photos of Fitzpatrick have been placed in front of his office, as well as in the science department. Grief counselors are on hand at the school to help students and staff cope with their loss.
Police are still trying to determine what caused the deadly crash.
A funeral Mass for Fitzpatrick will be held Saturday at St. Margaret's Church in Pearl River.
