Rats at Clarkstown H.S. highlight neglect, say parents
A rat problem at Clarkstown North High School that administrators say has been taken care of just highlights years of neglect at the school, according to parents.
School officials say they discovered dead rodents in the school. They say two were in ceilings in the classrooms and another was found in a trap. Officials say they have also taken extra precautions by securing holes around the building. They say an exterminator checks the school once a week.
However, some parents say it is too little too late. Concerned parent Chuck Adolff says many conditions at the high school are unacceptable for student life. Adolff points to a non-functioning bathroom filled with exercise equipment as just one example. He started an e-mail chain to parents about the problems at the school, hoping the board of education will listen to their complaints.
As for the rodent problem, the Rockland County Health Department inspected the building and says it is safe and administrators are taking appropriate action.
