With gas prices soaring past $3 a gallon in Westchester and Hudson Valley, there is a renewed emphasis on alternative fuel sources.
Congresswoman Sue Kelly (R-Yorktown) says alternative fuels would lower the nation?s dependence on foreign oil. Kelly is also worried about price gouging at gas stations. Those sentiments are shared by Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison), who says there also needs to be increased fuel economy standards.
Restaurant owner Jon Pratt is already riding the alternative fuel wave. He has installed a special kit in his truck, which allows it to run on vegetable oil. Pratt says in the past two years, he has saved about $7,000 in gas.
