Rep. Kelly gives up the recount fight, concedes race
Election Day recounts have come to an end as Congresswoman Sue Kelly (R-Katonah) reluctantly conceded defeat in the race for the 19th Congressional District.
Kelly's campaign announced the decision after the official re-canvassing of voting machines showed Democrat John Hall's lead was too big to overcome. Hall, who already claimed victory on Election Day, had a lead of more than 4,300 votes. There are approximately 8,000 absentee and other paper ballots still uncounted; however, Kelly would need 74 percent of those votes to win. Since paper ballots tend to reflect the voting machines, Kelly finally called it quits.
In a written statement, Kelly congratulated Hall and wished him well. Hall has been in Washington for orientation for his new job as a congressman.
