Rep. Nita Lowey met with some students and teachers Tuesday during a roundtable about preventing gun violence in schools.
Lowey held the gathering at her White Plains office.
"She, herself has really made it a big part of her platform to push for stricter gun control," student Lucinda Carroll says. "So we're going to work with her to try and expand to other senators and Congress people."
The group discussed issues like banning assault rifles, increasing security in schools and raising the legal age for purchasing guns.
"I'm not sure we'll be able to get it up to 25," Lowey says. "So how about we start at 21 and then work on 25?"
Lowey heads back to Washington on April 10 where she plans to use her vote to support stricter gun laws.
