Long Islanders are still grappling with Rep. George Santos' admitting again to lies that he told on the campaign trail.
The Republican congressman who represents New York's Third Congressional District spoke Tuesday in an interview with One America News.
"I've made my sincere apologies multiple times, I earlier said that I thoroughly apologize for lying about my education and embellishing the resume," Santos told the network. "I've made that very, very clear."
His interview and repeated apologies for lying doesn't seem to be doing much to convince local lawmakers' minds that Santos should resign.
"He's doing the best he can to try to redeem himself and I think he's doing it unsuccessfully," said Nassau Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs.
In a statement to News 12, chairman of the Nassau Republican Committee Joe Cairo, said in part, "George Santos has no home in the Nassau County Republican Committee. His interview on One America News Tuesday has done nothing to change my opinion about this serial liar. Again, I rebuke his campaign of lies, fabrications and hurtful misstatements."
Santos' interview isn't doing much to change voters' minds, either.
"He's made it hard for himself because of not being honest and he can't get away from that," says Kendria Agostinello, of Muttontown. "He can say whatever he wants to say and put it on politics or whatever."
