Residents headed to Coney Island Beach to keep cool during Wednesday's scorching temperatures.

City officials are reminding residents to take proper precautions during extreme heat, including applying sunscreen, drinking water and wearing breathable clothing.

If possible, officials are encouraging residents to stay indoors with air conditioning, or head to a cooling center.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is also urging New Yorkers to check on elderly neighbors.
