Residents look to stay cool, save money as temps rise
As the temperatures and humidity rose, Hudson Valley residents tried to beat the heat and save money at the same time. Orange and Rockland Utilities issued a heat advisory Thursday, citing the high heat and high demand for electricity.
Mike Donovan, of Orange and Rockland Utilities, says that by running air conditioners at 78 degrees instead of 72, electrical bills will see big savings. He also suggested using fans to circulate the cool air and turning off air conditioners or using a timer when going out. Some residents said they went outside and sought shady spots and cool breezes to stay cool.
