Results of Walden mayoral election contested
Three political candidates from Walden filed a lawsuit Tuesday, seeking to throw out last week's election results due to alleged violations of protocol.
Becky Pearson, the current village mayor who was defeated in the election by 23-year-old Brian Maher, and two trustee candidates claim the village clerk put voter tallies with the wrong names of candidates.
Although the lawsuit demands a new election in Walden, Maher does not think it will happen.
"To me, it's a last-ditch effort," he says. "It makes anyone who's a part of it look a little worse, especially when you're thinking of wasting taxpayer money on your cause."
Maher, who is now one of the state's youngest mayors, is staying optimistic and looking forward to his new job.
"That's what helped me win my campaign -- staying positive," he says.
The newly-elected mayor and trustees are set to be sworn in April 6.
