A controversial new ad airing for Rob Astorino's gubernatorial campaign has become a major talking point for both Democrats and Republicans.

The 30-second commercial is a remake of President Lyndon B. Johnnson's "Daisy Girl" ad that aired in 1964. The original ad warned America of a nuclear holocaust and helped Johnson defeat Barry Goldwater. Astorino's ad calls Gov. Andrew Cuomo corrupt for his handling of the Moreland Commission.

Cuomo's spokesman Matt Wing says the ad would be factual if it were about Astorino, saying the Westchester County executive has been charged with making false statements by the U.S. attorney. Astorino was also criticized by other Democrats for campaigning on Long Island with conservative Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Jeanne Zaino, a political science professor at Iona College, says Astorino's ad has helped him get media attention, which she says he desperately needs.
